A Guide to Organic Gardening Supply

Before you set out to start organic gardening you need to have a strategic plan in place. This will help you to design and implement all your supplies and have a beautiful garden that supplies you with produce everyday. Based on the design that you plan out for your garden you will need a set of tools. You need not worry about the cost that you will incur as the tools are cost effective; as a matter of fact most of the tools can be made at home. You can start designing and preparing your tools when you start designing your garden.

One of the first tools that you will need to get you started is a spading fork. This is a tool that will help you to loosen the soil so that you can sow the seeds. This tool looks like a fork; the difference here is that the handle is short and it has wider tines. You do not need to buy this tool. Look out for an old pitchfork or any old cutlery that is worn out. Use this to poke holes into the earth and loosen the soil. You can use this on smaller garden spaces.

One of the other tools that you will need is a watering can. Most of the cans that are available commercially will cost you approximately $15 to $35. You can easily avoid this cost by preparing a watering can at home. Select an old can or a bottle that has a capacity of a few liters and pierce holes in it. Fill water in this container and use it as a watering can to water your organic garden.

You will need a rounded edged shovel to dig large areas where you are planting shrubs and trees. If you have a huge rounded can cover you could attach a long handle to it and use it as a shovel.

Every organic garden needs a rake. This tool is used to level the soil and or to remove rocks and pebbles from the soil before you sow the seeds. You need not invest in this tool as you can use an old shovel to carry out your work.

In order to see your garden blooming throughout the year you will need to have good quality compost. There are several distributors that sell compost for organic gardens; however you need not buy any compost as you can make it at home. Coir from coconut trees, decomposed leaves and even household garbage can be used as compost in an organic garden. You will need to research the compost requirement for the plants that you are sowing before using the compost. You could also re-use your soil as compost if your previous crop has been successful and has been not had an insect infestation.

An organic garden will need a good pair of shears or clippers. You need not run out and buy these from a store. An ordinary pair of kitchen scissors will suffice. This tool is required for cutting, pruning and getting rid of the foliage.

An organic garden is eco friendly. It gives you the freedom of growing your own fruits and vegetables and gives you access to the freshest produce in town. In order to reduce your set up cost you can make your tools at home.
